Song of America: Educator Workshop

Song of America: Educators Workshop

LA Opera is thrilled to host a Professional Development opportunity presented by the Hampsong Foundation on Saturday, May 14th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. This workshop explores the power of classic American songs as the gateway for a richer knowledge of the cultures, languages, peoples, and events that have shaped American life. The writings and historical context of American poets Walt Whitman and Langston Hughes will be the focus of this workshop. K-12 Language Arts, History, Social Studies, and Performing Arts educators are encouraged to register to learn how classic song—poetry set to music—can strengthen and intensify the subjects that they already teach.

There will be an optional second part to the May 14th PD on June 25th during SongFest at Colburn School, including a meet and greet with Thomas Hampson. Free tickets will be offered to all May 14th participants.
