‘Song of America’ Two-Day Educator Workshop

Event Details

Song of America Teacher Workshop on History, Music, and Art

Thursday & Friday, August 16th & 17th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

$45.00 per teacher, or $69 including box lunch both days (wrap, sides, drink. Veggie option available)

Would you like to connect the arts with the humanities in a more integral way in your classroom? The two-day Song of America workshop offers an interdisciplinary exploration of American history and culture through two artistic forms: classic song (poetry set to music) and visual art (as represented by the holdings of the Fenimore Art Museum). Educators will engage in hands-on activities, participate in interactive presentations, and experience live performances of music as well as of pieces in the museum collection. The workshop will culminate in the preparation of lesson plans and activities specific to the grades and subjects of participating educators which integrate the arts with humanities topics. Ideal for K-12 Language Arts, English, Social Studies, and Performing Arts Educators. Special topics will include Native American culture, Alexander Hamilton/Early America, the Civil War, North American folk movements, and African American history of the 20th century. The workshop draws on the Song of America educational resources (http://songofamerica.net), developed by the Hampsong Foundation in collaboration with the Library of Congress, and the expansive collection of the Fenimore Art Museum for a unique immersive experience. A collaboration between the Hampsong Foundation and the Fenimore Art Museum/The Farmers’ Museum, in conjunction with the Glimmerglass Festival.

Registrants may opt to bring their own bag lunch or to purchase a ticket which includes a box lunch on both days. Vegetarian option is available.
