Song of America

Introduction

Through the doorway of song come history, poetry, democracy, hope, and imagination. That is why we created Song of America, a comprehensive online resource for American art song that tells our story through the eyes of our poets and the ears of our composers.

For America’s 250th anniversary, we launched a redesign of the Song of America website, resulting in improved navigation and a bold new look.

Song of America has nearly 3,000 songs, two online radio series, and dozens of essays and lesson plans that serve over 75,000 monthly visitors.

Song of America’s parent organization, the Hampsong Foundation, is on a journey to constantly improve and expand this essential resource and similar projects uplifting the art of song. Founded in 2003 by American baritone Thomas Hampson, the Hampsong Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which creates platforms to support and proliferate the art of classic song—poetry set to music—from around the world as a means to enhance communication and understanding among cultures.
