Part of the Song of America: A Celebration of Black Music Mini-Festival

Song of America: A Celebration of Black Music celebrates music and texts by African American composers, sung and played by a largely African American cast led by baritone Thomas Hampson and his co-curator Dr. Louise Toppin.

In the Elbphilharmonie Talk, several of the singers and musicians who appear in the three-part concert series– Louise Toppin, Thomas Hampson, Leah Hawkins, Lawrence Brownlee und Roderick Cox – talk about the fantastic composers on the program, up until now little-known and underrepresented on international concert platforms…about African Americans who have always been part of American art music..and about a project that invites the public to enjoy this repertoire in all its diversity.
